about

A release by AEFA, more to follow.

In the invented years, the imaginary gardens of shrugging flowers something assembles itself from scraps of balsa and treated fabric. Cellulose engines pitch and burst, forcing echoes across the dead carpet of yesterday's leaves. AEFA shudders and calibrates itself.

Four pieces, composed and recorded by Joseph Sergi and Matthew Farr.

Dérive I: From within it should surface:

Remember the baths where you were murdered

I woke with this marble head in my hands;
it exhausts my elbow and I don’t know where to put it down.
It was falling into the dream as I was coming out of the dream
so our life became one and it will be very difficult for it to separate again.

I look at the eyes: neither open nor closed
I speak to the mouth which keeps trying to speak
I hold the cheeks which have broken through the skin.
That’s all I’m able to do.

My hands disappear and come towards me
mutilated.

[George Seferis; Mythistorema, III; trans., Edmund Keeley]

Dérive II: Condolences:

Do you remember the day,
When I walked you to the station
And we stood on the platform and argued
Over whose suitcases they were
Over who was leaving and who was staying
Do you remember?
We argued for so long that the train left without either of us,
And we watched it pummel into the distance in a wisp of smoke
How we walked back in silence
The suitcases abandoned
And a lingering bitterness

[Matthew Farr]

Dérive III: Horns of Daraxa:

Once more at a distance of ten days' journey there is a salt-hill, a spring, and a tract of inhabited country, and adjoining it rises Mount Atlas. In shape the mountain is a slender cone, and it is so high that according to report the top cannot be seen, because summer and winter it is never free of cloud. The natives (who are known as the Atlantes, after the mountain) call it the Pillar of the Sky. They are said to eat no living creature, and never to dream.

[Herodotus; The Histories, Book 4; trans., Aubrey de Sélincourt]

Dérive IV: Bulkhead

about

ootputs London, UK

Oot evades most questions. It is a weather vane, a path of least resistance, an interfacing of bodies & equipment in low-lit basements & living rooms & now fumbling its way through the electrical storms & metalled avenues of modern infrastructure. Oot is the loving thunder, the living, breathing, feeling photocopier, a pylon through mist. It flows & catches, is prone to forgetfulness. Picture it. ... more
